Doc Severinsen -
Principal Pops Conductor
The Phoenix Symphony
.....
Doc Severinsen, popular for many years as music director of the "Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson, is now in his nineteenth season of conducting and performing Pops Concerts with the Phoenix Symphony.
.....
Doc began his long and enduring musical career in Arlington, Oregon, where he was approached to join the touring band of Ted Fio Rito -- a famous piano player, composer and bandleader who first became popular in the 1930s. Among his best-known songs were "Toot, Toot, Tootsie, Goodbye" and "Charley, My Boy."
.....
Doc later played trumpet with such great bands as Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Charlie Barnet before joining the Tonight Show band in 1962 and becoming its music director in 1967.
.....
In Doc's interview with One-on-One, he discusses his three performances during the 2001-02 season with the Phoenix Symphony. The concerts include "Doc's Favorites," "Evening of Romance" and "Musica Caliente."
